Provide Pastoral Care

This unit Provide Pastoral Care utilizes the Community services unit “CHCPAS002 Provide Pastoral and Spiritual Care” while contextualizes it to Christian Ministry

This unit describes the skill and knowledge required to identify specific issues and provide appropriate pastoral and spiritual support to a range of clients. Work may be either in a paid or volunteer capacity, across a range of contexts. This unit applies to workers who operate under professional supervision and mentoring by senior workers and/or within the lines of authority of the organization or belief system

 

Provide Pastoral and Spiritual Care

Provide Pastoral Care

 

This unit for Provide Pastoral Care uses "CHCPAS002 Provide Pastoral and Spiritual Care" is a secular course that is Christianised for relevance in Church ministry.  The local church and its ministers are accountable to the same laws and legislation and principles as someone undertaking a pastoral role in a secular setting

The unit describes the skills and knowledge required to develop the personal and professional ministry skills required to and lay a sound foundation for further professional development

The unit applies to individuals who are required to design their own work schedules and work plans and to establish priorities for their work. They will typically hold some responsibilities for the work of others and have some autonomy in relation to their own role.

 

Provide Pastoral Care Issues To Be Addressed

 

Skills must have been demonstrated in the workplace with the addition of simulations and scenarios where the full range of contexts and situations have not been provided in the workplace. The following conditions must be met for this unit:

  1. use of suitable facilities, equipment, and resources
  2. modeling of industry operating conditions, including:
  3. use of verbatims to reflect on own provision of pastoral and spiritual care under the mentoring of a qualified chaplain or pastoral and spiritual care worker
  4. interactions with clients from a range of backgrounds under the supervision of a qualified chaplain or pastoral and spiritual care worker

Provide Pastoral Care Knowledge Evidence

 

Performance Evidence

The candidate must show evidence of the ability to complete tasks outlined in elements and performance criteria of this unit, manage tasks and manage contingencies in the context of the job role. There must be evidence that the candidate has:

  1. provided pastoral and spiritual support to 3 clients or community groups
  2. documented a log of 20 hours of reflection and review of own performance, values, and beliefs
  3. prepared a Pastoral Care Verbatim Report in collaboration with supervising chaplain or pastoral and spiritual care worker
  4. performed the activities outlined in the performance criteria of this unit during a period of 100 hours of work in at least 1 organization or community setting

Knowledge Evidence

The candidate must be able to demonstrate essential knowledge required to effectively complete tasks outlined in elements and performance criteria of this unit, manage the task and manage contingencies in the context of the local church. These include knowledge of:

  1. pastoral and spiritual care as a holistic, person-centered approach to care
  2. professional associations and coordinating authorities for pastoral care and spiritual services
  3. research tools and techniques
  4. analysis and interpretation processes
  5. types of specialized information sources and how to locate them
  6. challenges, issues, and milestones relating to different life stage

Provide Pastoral Care Learning Options

Students complete the subject Provide Pastoral Care utilizes the unit “CHCPAS002 Provide Pastoral and Spiritual Care” through our “Online Training Portal” while evidence of practical experience will be applied in the context of the local church

The portal provides the student with an interactive and comprehensive learning and training section.  Various assignments are presented which are designed to teach and develop and determine competency in the units. Detailed instructions and access are provided to students by VIC as they enter the unit.
